SHOE RACK
CHERRY
Let’s start with this: I have way too many shoes. For some reason, unlike clothes, I can’t bring myself to get rid of shoes. In my eyes, each has such a specific purpose so I end up keeping every pair I buy. That being said, I started to run out of appropriate space to store all of my shoes over the course of the last few years, and I’ve thought of doing a shoe rack for ages. While going to get new lumber for my first customer piece (a book case – coming soon), I also grabbed some cherry lumber to finally take a crack at a shoe rack.
This was the first time I used cherry lumber, and I am extremely happy with the color, grain, and unique patterns, especially after using Odie’s Oil to bring out all of the deep reds and light cream colors in the wood; I’ve found that this is my favorite way to finish new pieces – my go-to finishing coat.
All in all, this build was really quick and my most efficient build to this point. All in all, it was a two-weekend process. Weekend one was cutting all of the lumber to size, and weekend two was sanding, pocket-holing, finishing, and assembling. It fits most of my shoes, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out!
